If I can just reach a few people with this blog, If I can just make a handful of people realise that they don’t need to identify with this mutant consciousness, then my blog has done its job.
It’s a process though guys!! God damn, you’d better believe it, and if I haven't emphasized that enough yet in my blog so far, it is!
I am 3 years into it and I’ve had to put in effort and a little bit of work in daily. You see “Real Healing” is tough, it’s not pretty and it’s not like most peoples view of spirituality where you obtain indefinitely blissful states by being positive, visualising chakras, or tuning in to dis-incarnate entities, or any other of the countless things that passes under the large umbrella of spirituality. Real healing is grim, ugly and disgustingly real. It involves facing the uncomfortable emotions that the monster simply wont let you dive into freely.
A vital part of my real healing has been stopping or disabling the monster. Without consistent effort in this area, we can’t reach the energetic level we need to be in to do the releasing work, the monster simply won’t let us.
I don’t feel that this article is the right one to muse about why the monster/ego behaves like this. I will speculate further on this subject in another blog post.
Let’s look at how the monster behaves:
The monster operates in the following ways:
It makes judgments
It attaches labels
It makes predictions
It works via concepts
It takes everything personally
It is not objective but subjective
It blames, whines, makes it someone else's problem
It needs to know/understand
It needs to be sure
It doesn’t accept objective truth
It’s generally unpleasant and it’s probably the reason why we see so much unbalanced and malicious behaviour in the world, because most people are listening to the monster all day long.
Indeed, if you can observe having mental dialogue that is familiar to the list above, then you may well be in the control of the monster.
This is where the effort comes in. To have any chance of stopping the monster we must begin what is called “witnessing”. This is simply to observe your thoughts as they happen. We start to spot when we are in “Monster Mode”.
What I have observed about this process is how uniquely simple and difficult it is at the same time. I’ll enjoy days at a time of being relatively free of the monster and all of a sudden it’s processes sneak back in so subtly I’ll hardly even notice.
My teacher has told me many times, “It’ll never stop.”. While I find this slightly disappointing I realise by practice that all I need to do is disable the thing long enough to start the work of releasing stuck emotions.
The longer this is practised, the easier it gets. Like any skill. And here’s how… Just say “stop!”.
Stupidly simple right? Was that an anti-climax? If yes then that may also be your monster talking, as it was for mine. You see it expected there to be some great trick, some secret, some concept to understand, but no. The actual method is so simple and it does work. Every single time you recognise that the monster is in control, just stop that process dead by calmly saying “Stop!”. We don't argue with it, WE JUST IGNORE IT!
Ant therein is the work. It is simple but it takes daily continuous effort to become effective at witnessing. Try it, start today, limiting that terrible mental chatter is just the beginning of the process but with it comes benefits; an easing of the mind and an increased space within.
I see an analogy as such: If we were a computer, then the monster is like the malware and viruses. We use our machines every day in the same way and somewhere along the line we pick up malicious software. It takes up memory and processing capacity. How well would our machines run if we stopped these processes??
Once we have a handle on the monster, we start adding to our energy skill set. With all these tools and disciplines we will eventually access areas of our energetic selves which need to be attended to, we can start to bring up stuck emotions, old traumas, and the process of real healing can begin.
